The Connected Walk: It Starts Before You Leave
Before the leash. Before the door. Before the sidewalk. Learn to read what your dog is telling you right now and meet them where they are, so you step outside as a team.
The Sunflower Method is a simple 6-week training plan made up of micro-games that are fun for both you and your dog. It moves through three stages:
Seed StageBuild trust and strong foundations in calm, low-distraction environments.
Sprout StageIntroduce small, strategic challenges one step at a time while your dog relies on your leadership.
Sunflower StageLoose leash walking becomes something you enjoy together instead of something you try to survive.
The guide walks you through all three stages with real demos, at your own pace.
This guide is a general framework. It won’t be the right fit for every dog. Dogs who struggle with reactivity often need support from a trainer experienced in behavior modification.

Why It Works
It’s never a bad dog. It’s the right plan, in the right order.
Training doesn’t start with commands. It starts with connection. When you understand your dog’s nervous system and meet their needs based on breed and personality, everything becomes easier. Timing improves, communication makes sense, and real-world behavior becomes more reliable.
1
Clarity
Your dog learns what you’re asking in a way they can actually understand. Simple reinforcement and clean timing help them build cues that feel natural.
2
Connection
Your dog starts checking in with you on their own. Training in environments your dog is ready for sets you both up for success. As your dog feels safe and understood, they learn to trust you and know you have their back.
3
Confidence
You both feel calmer and more capable. Fluent behaviors hold up in real-world environments, even when things get messy.
4
Fulfillment
Your dog’s physical, social, and mental needs are met in ways that match their breed and personality. A fulfilled dog is a calmer dog, and a calmer dog learns faster.
🌻 The Sunflower Journey
A simple, step-by-step process that sets your dog up for success.
🌱
Seed Stage
We start in low-distraction environments where your dog can think clearly. You build trust, meet their needs, and teach the foundation skills that make everything else easier.
🌿
Sprout Stage
We add small, controlled challenges. Your dog practices staying connected to you as the world gets a little busier, one step at a time.
🌻
Sunflower Stage
We take those skills into real-world environments. Your dog learns to stay calm, confident, and responsive on walks, even when things get unpredictable.

ATLAS CERTIFIED SERVICE DOG TRAINER · KPA-CTP
I’m a certified professional trainer with over 20 years of experience. My job is helping you and your dog understand each other. Learning your dog’s body language and seeing how your nervous system connects with theirs changes everything about how you interact. My favorite part of training is the Aha! moment, when you and your dog communicate clearly for the first time. At home, my golden retriever Olaf keeps me inspired and on my toes with his golden antics.
Working in person throughout Redmond, Kirkland, Mercer Island, and Bellevue, and online with families worldwide.

Questions, answered
Every family begins with a free 15-minute consult so I can understand your dog, your goals, and the kind of support you’re looking for. For training and behavior programs, the next step is a 90-minute ACE-informed evaluation ($175). You’ll leave with a personalized roadmap and clear guides for three of your dog’s most challenging behaviors.
ACE (Animal Centered Education) is the holistic lens I use to understand every dog. It’s built on one core idea: physical, emotional, and behavioral wellbeing are deeply connected. How a dog feels in their body shapes how they behave. Instead of focusing on a single trigger, an ACE evaluation looks at the whole picture — the many small stressors that build in a dog’s nervous system over time. I want to see how your dog regulates themselves without interference. I use free work, which allows your dog to explore a set of stations, textures, and food-based enrichment while I simply observe. I watch how they move, what they seek out, what they avoid, and how they cope. No cues, no pressure, no fixed outcome. Just curiosity. Every service begins here because ACE reveals things a single training session never could. It helps me build a plan around who your dog truly is.
No. Walk and Train is just me and your dog. I choose a location that fits your dog’s current skill level, then I do the walking and training. After each session, I send you custom videos from your dog’s own walks and show you exactly where you are in the six-week guide. It’s an easy, affordable way to begin.
I am an Atlas-certified service dog trainer and support owner-trained teams. Task training and public access skills are built around your specific needs.
Often, yes. Support happens through the Reactivity and Behavior program, which is nervous-system-first and assessed individually. The consult helps me make sure it’s the right and safe fit.
